The Peace Tree from Hiroshima: The Little Bonsai with a Big Story
Sandra Moore, Illustrations Kazumi Wilds

Based on a true story, The Peace Tree from Hiroshima, tells of a 400 year old bonsai tree that survived the Hiroshima bombing. Though the small pine and its caretaker lived just two miles from the where the bomb exploded, both survived. In 1976, the bonsai was given to the United States as a bicentennial gift. This story serves as an introduction to Japanese culture and to a difficult but important moment in world history.
